What is st. johns house learning & development center?

St. John's House has been helping at-risk children from low-income families since 1991.  Our mission is to provide the school children of Marcum Terrace  with the tools necessary to thrive in a school environment and even more so to thrive in life.  St. John's Episcopal Church, in partnership with paid professional staff and community volunteers provide learning-centered care after school, as well as a hot meal, homework help, fun activities and a safe, supportive environment for as many as 50 children (ages 4-18) each day.

What's so great about this program?

The way this program focuses on the learning needs and challenges of children who live in poverty makes all the difference in how children view, perform and enjoy in the local schools.  Teachers and staff work hard to make school a positive experience and to prevent drop out.  They also work to make after-school time fun, formative and positive.  The hot meal served each day may be the only hot meal these children get, so we see the meal time as every bit as important as the learning, play and social time.

The children we serve make this program a life changing and joy-filled experience for the teachers, staff, and volunteers.

St. John's House Learning and Development Center is located at 1100 Marcum Terrace, Huntington, WV 25705.
